...and that happened!

This has got to be fake, but even still, it's pretty damn funny:
"Yellow and blue for Dustin" Very nice. I have a friend that would probably still listen to him over Joe Morgan and he's definitely better than Mark Messier.

Update: Since I posted I've read that the announcer is apparently singer John Mayer doing the play-by-play. He was at the game and the video was posted on his blog. Not sure I'm buying that but if it's true it makes this video even better!

Waikiki Hockey - Hall of Fame

Well it's time to put our first entry in the Hall of Fame. Not surprisingly, it's also the name of this blog. ..of course we're referring to the 'Waikiki Hockey' sketch from Wayne Gretzky's stint as host on Saturday Night Live in 1989.

A very awkward Wayne Gretzky + an unbelievably bad script = the most bizarre SNL skit ever made:

We remember SNL in the late 1980's and early 1990's putting out some of the funniest stuff on TV -- "Waikiki Hockey" is not an example of this. There are many cringe worthy moments in there...like when Chad says to Kitty:
"I didn't know angels could fly so low."

Ouch...painful to watch. Or when Chad went to lay a 'kiss' on Kitty (with moves like that how did Gretzky manage to hook up with Janet Jones?)...that's not just cringe worthy, that's David Brent from "The Office" cringe worthy. Nice job Gretz!

But that song is comedy gold:

"Mona luckahiki means hockey
Mona luckawiki means love
A moonlit ice rink means
romance with my baby
and the stars above."

Chorus:
"Kiki Hockey, Waikiki Hockey!
Kiki Hockey, Waikiki Hockey!"

Classic. No other way to put it.

Mr. Gretzky....Welcome to the Hall of Fame (again)

Welcome to Waikiki Hockey

Everywhere we go all we see are blogs. We've found some pretty decent ones too. Some of our favourites are Drunk Jays Fans, Fantasy Hockey Scouts, and from "professionals" like Puck Daddy over at Yahoo.

Our favourite thing is the bizarro stuff we've seen. who expects to see this kind of thing when they log on:

You don't see quality entertainment like that every day. Seeing Alexander Ovechkin asked for information on how some guy can get a Segway for his office is funny...although we're not sure why. That's what the plan is here. We want all the junk on the internet that we find funny as hell in one place.

The most revered, honoured, crazy, bizarre videos will receive the special honour of being named to the Hall of Fame.

If you find anything good please pass it along.
